loving lately : a peacock chair

When I think of bohemian style there is a certain piece of furniture that always comes to mind. That my friends is the peacock chair. I love them! I love the contradiction that they give : a grand statement and size while simultaneously appearing light and airy.

And in case you aren't a fan I have some pictorial evidence of their beauty!

Convinced? I thought so :)

It only seems natural to paint something referred to as a 'peacock chair' in any color your heart desires. I personally love the look of the black chair.

My infatuation of these chairs drove me to scour Craigslist looking for one to call my own. I had been looking for awhile when I found this guy. The good news: it is only $50 and is in great condition! Beautiful! But, as is my luck, there was a problem. No it wasn't sold (which I think would have made me feel better!). It was about an hour and a half drive one way, which I was willing to do, but it wouldn't fit in my car. I asked for some approximate measurements and it was a no go. Sadly I have no access to a truck either and the seller was unable to deliver. I am still contemplating strapping it down to the roof of my car, but I am afraid that a drive that long at 75mph and sometimes delicate rattan may not be the best combination.

But it's soooo pretty! So maybe if it's still there this weekend I will make the drive and take the risk.

What do you think?

get the look: a warm & cozy reading nook

I'm all about little nooks and corners that are sort of rooms within rooms. A little space to go and get lost in a good book or simply relax with, in my case, three dogs and a bird all trying to sit in your lap.

I have always loved the look and feel of this particular corner space.

The fabric on the seat is especially stunning!

It's a very neutral area that has lots of warmth and texture brought in through a great use of accessories. So naturally I wanted to recreate the look :)

For the seat I already knew the most affordable option would be the IKEA Kivik one section seat. I found several fun renditions of a herringbone print fabric on spoonflower.com, but really liked these two. You could get the seat upholstered or make a slipcover, OR, for the DIYer, create a stamp and print onto the seat yourself!

After the seat is taken care of, it all comes down to the pretty details. Leopard print pillows add lots of texture along with faux fur. I swapped out a faux fur pillow for a throw blanket, mostly because I always like to be under a blanket:) Add a lamp with a bit of a visual interest and some flowers and books to your acrylic table and you've got the look!

This room pairs great with the dark wood floors, light gray walls, and blush floor-length curtains!

Anybody else want to curl up in this corner?

over the . WEEKEND.

This past weekend was definitely a busy one for the boy and I and it was all completely spur of the moment. We didn't have any projects in mind, but as it goes there were some things that needed a little love around the house. One of those things was our boot room.

We pulled out the old chipped vinyl flooring and put ceramic tile down.

A shot of the gypsum underlayment board all screwed in and us figuring out how we wanted to lay the tile.

Ahh yes, gypsum board dust particles are toxic. Hey there mask!
It was a sunny 80* out and I was not looking my best :)

I also got called on to do another furniture makeover piece. This time it's an antique tea cart which I've been told to "do what I want" with. Yay! I haven't 100% decided what to do but I did pick up some oops paint from Lowes that I will utilize. Oh yea...and a new paint sprayer! Pretty excited about this guy.

I've never used Valspar paints before, but I couldn't pass up their oops paint prices.

And of course my weekend contained some funny bird and dog interactions. Eirlys ( the bird ) is completely infatuated with my dog Oka, who is less thrilled about their relationship. Oka has basically just developed a birdie tolerance :)

And now back to my normal Monday.
